Process: (The images in this video do not necessarily display this entire process)

  • A hydraulic press creates round shape and forms the base of the tank
  • The tank body is welded together
  • Fittings are welded in by a projection welder
  • The tank top is welded into place
  • Liquid enamel is sprayed inside the tank and baked at an extremely high temperature to form a protective coat
  • The base and flue are attached to the tank
  • Tank is then tested to see if there are any leaks
  • For an electric tank the elements are installed next, then the thermostat
  • The water heater casing is formed
  • The top and bottom edges crimped so the top and bottom lids can be fitted properly
  • The casing is placed over the inner tank
  • Polyurethane insulating foam is inserted between the shell and the inner tank to insulate the water heater
  • For a gas tank, the gas burner is installed at the bottom of the tank, then tested for gas leaks
  • Final touches, such as labelling are then performed
